iPhoto gets stuck on startup

hey...
After opening iPhoto it gets stuck for about 2 minutes - can't do anything with it.
after that it works fine.

I have a mac pro 08, 10.5.2

didn't have this in the past, only last few weeks.

Any ideas what causes this? solutions perhaps?
