I am new to the forum so forgive me if this has been talked about before. I have an Imac with the Harddrive about to fill up. Like everyone else, the majority is photos and music. Here is what I would like to do but don't know how to setup:

I would like my iPhoto library to be "housed" on an external hard drive so as when I open iPhoto, the software would be directed to the external hard drive. (Would like to do the same with iTunes) This way I could of course delete the photos on the hard drive and free up needed space. I would also like to have another external hard drive that would be my backup drive for the photos and music in case of a failure of the hard drive where the photos and music is stored.

Any help for this type of setup would be appreciated.

You can do the setup you mention,

1. quit iPhoto
2. copy the iphoto library to another disk
3. start iphoto (it should automatically scream for the missing library)
4. select the library on the external disk

you are done

make sure you have the disk mounted every time you start iphoto, otherwise you will end up in step 3

try also right-click on the trash in iPhoto, because it does not delete images immediately. This is sometimes a great way to recover disk space
