iphoto Help!!! Please!!!

When I open iphoto I gett a spinning beach ball. Finder says iphoto is not responding. I have tried to restart iphoto as well as restart my computer. Neither option will get it to open. What does this mean? Any help. I do have a time capsule which was last backed up on the 6th of July.
