iphoto-how do i stop it searching on start up

newbie here, to Mac and MacRumors. I used an external hard drive once to upload some photos, now every time I open iphoto it searches for it and won't start up properly. Does any one have any ideas on how to stop the auto search for this hard drive?

Hold down the option key when starting iPhoto, then when prompted to choose a library, choose the one you want it to open. That should be the default until you manually change it back.

OK that worked and stops the searching, but how do I put all the photos in to the new library I have created that are on an external hard drive..
