After updating my wife's iMac from Snow Leopard to Mavericks, apparently iPhoto was updated also with a few new features. Now the groups of pictures ("events") are in a different order. Newly-imported "events" are now placed near the beginning (top) of the iPhoto screen instead of at the bottom. Many events are no longer in chronologic order even though they are (mostly) labeled with the original dates. Now it's hard to find pictures.

How can I make some order of this? Renaming the event groups doesn't seem to re-order them as expected. Would upgrading to Aperture help? Maybe Lightroom?

I'm not sure about this, but I think that iPhoto went from version 09 to iPhoto 11.

On the View menu in iPhoto there is a Sort Events item which allows you to control it. The options are Date, Keyword, Title, Rating, Manually.
