I started actually using iPhoto yesterday (bought a camera) and I can see how your interface idea makes a lot of sense. I like to categorize everything (part of the reason I dislike iMovie) and think the "add/remove' buttons for the keywords is much needed. I agree that the recessed icons are pretty pointless and out of place as well. Well done.
