iPhoto import problem

Hey guys well we have never had a problem with iphoto and trying to import pictures from my moms D70 until now. So of the Raw and Jpeg pics are coming up with a error message. It says the files are unreadable and then lists all the files like so /private/var/tmp/folders.501/TemporaryItems/iPhoto/DSC_0042.NEF

Would anyone know why this is happening or how I can fix it.
