iPhoto & iPhone 5 Photo Stream

When I import photos from my cameras memory card onto my macbook, the photos for some reason automatically and annoyingly appear on my iPhone5 Photo Stream. Is there a way of preventing this?

When looking in iPhoto on my MacBook, these same photos dont appear in the Photo Stream event for that month, so why are they appearing on my iPhone?

Spent the afternoon looking into this and I may have rectified the problem. In iPhoto on my MacBook, select Preferences > Photo Stream and uncheck the box - Automatic Upload.

I will see if this works.
