I tried opening iPhoto last night, and message popped up saying it was locked. The option to quit or repair appeared, and after hitting repair and entering my password, another message popped up saying it was locked, so couldn't be repaired. Any ideas??? I can get to my photos in Finder, but it would be nice if iPhoto worked. It's an early 2013 13" rMBP, with Mavericks and all updates.

TIA!

You have a problem of permissions on the iPhoto Library.

Go the Pictures folder, select the iPhoto Library, right click, get info, in the bottom of the window see "sharing and permissions", unlock, then :

- add your username if no there, check you are in "read & write"
- select your username, click the gear icon and click "make (Me) the owner" if active

You can also do this via the Terminal :

sudo chown -R username ~username/Pictures/"library_name.photolibrary"

Replace username to your actual user name, replace library_name to the actual name (default is iPhoto Library). Use the quotes if the library's name has a space in it.
Don't forget to add the extension .photolibrary
