Hello lovely people, (here's hoping for some brainy Apple whizzes to help a girl out...)

I've got a Macbook Air 13" and I'm usually fairly tech-savvy although my issue with iPhoto has me stumped this time.

I'd not really collected a great number of photos as my Macbook is only a few months old, but recent excursions have taken place thus resulting in more precious memories being captured in a Canon lens.... yeah. (For the record, they weren't as soppy as my spiel has made out, but I was quite impressed by the photography, hence why I'm concerned about keeping them.)

However, I tried accessing a photo tonight and I've discovered that iPhoto isn't displaying a couple of events. Thumbnails are showing, and when I go into 'edit' the scrollbar at the bottom shows the photos fine, but there is just a rather ominous, black screen pops up with an exclamation mark on it.

There's even one photo where it's telling me there's a face needing to be tagged, but there's just a black screen, thus suggesting that the photo is 'there' but not there....

However, the plot thickens...

Although the photo thumbnails show in iPhoto 'edit' mode, they don't show on general viewing of all photographs, either in iPhoto or in Finder, but they do show momentarily on scrolling through iPhoto quickly.

Either my Macbook is teasing me or I have a problem.

One possible contributing factor I can think of is something to do with my camera. Over the space of a week (let's say 6 events), 3 events were taken with a small Canon 14.5 megapixel camera, but 3 were taken with an older Canon 8 megapixel SLR. And it's these last 3 events that aren't showing properly. I think the memory card was SanDisk, although it may have been another make (Viking possibly). Trouble is, the photos uploaded fine....

Which is where my second possible issue comes in. I believe (it's been about a month; memory is faltering a little here!) I uploaded the SLR photographs onto the 27" iMac, then did some tangled fandango of electronic moves to get the albums of photos across to my Macbook. This involved something along the lines of moving the photos to the 'public' folder on the iMac and thence to the M'B Air. Or it may have been onto the Time Capsule ...
Anyway, regardless of which method it was, the photos had been transferred before I upgraded to Lion.

Wondering if some image data got lost in translation en route from iMac to Macbook, or if it's a fault of the SLR, or a fault of iPhoto (most probable answer being that it's a fault of my own!)?

And, more importantly, is there anyway to recover my photographs? I deleted them from the memory card in the camera...

Answers will be much appreciated,

Many thanks,

Clare
