I currently have iPhoto set to copy everything I import to the iPhoto Library, however since HD movies from my Canon camera take a lot of space I would like to keep these on an external harddrive. Photos on the other hand I would like to have in the iPhoto Library as usual.

Is this possible?

Yes, you could drag them out of the iPhoto library onto the external drive, then delete them from iPhoto, but then they would no longer appear within the main iPhoto window. I suppose that you could create a new iPhoto library on the external, but then you'd have to start up iPhoto holding down the Option key to choose that library.

Not with the current version of iPhoto.

You could use one of the third party tools for splitting an iPhoto library and kee everything in a master library on the external drive and a copy on the internal drive.

Alternatively, don't store your movie files in iPhoto at all.
