The other day, iPhoto stopped working for me. It launched, but the spinning gear was just moving in the center of the window, and no pictures were visible. I left it for a while to see if it would finish, but it never changed and I just had to Force Quit. I went ahead and rebuilt the library and repaired permissions (by holding down Command-Option while launching iPhoto), and also repaired permissions in Disk Utility. Then, I tried creating a new library, and I get the same problem, so it's not a corrupt library (which is relieving, as I know I'll be able to get back the photos with their organization.
That said, I can't figure out why iPhoto isn't launching. After I realized the library was fine, I deleted iPhoto and reinstalled it from the App Store, but it still hangs at launch. I deleted the preferences, but again, no change. I'm not really sure what to try next.
I have a hang report on my Dropbox, if anyone who can read it could look at it. I can usually make some sense of hang reports, but this one is indecipherable to me. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12428034/iPhoto_2012-03-23-233826.hang
