iPhoto library too big? Extreme latency in iPhoto

Hi all, I was hoping for some suggestions or guidance...

Setup: 1.86 GHz MacBook Air w/4 GB RAM.
Have approximately 22,000 photos that are all stored on a network drive.

There is definitely some latency because of the setup (iTunes is also slow to sync), but iPhoto is really, really slow, to the point that if I watch the activity monitor, I can see that iPhoto becomes unresponsive for a few minutes while loading each time.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I might do to resolve this?

Your issue is probably the network speed. Even with Wifi N I found iPhoto was unusable with the photos stored on network storage.

I would recommend putting it on an external HD and connecting to it via USB.
