why does iphoto lighten a picture after i've cropped it? how do i stop this crazy action?

Only way to stop it is to stop using iPhoto for editting.

I noticed the very same thing, that no matter what edit I did (crop, rotate, etc), the photo would be lightened or reddened.

The only fix I found is to just export them to edit in other software.

I only using iPhoto for storing/browsing casual photos now. It's junk as an editor, IMO

It doesn't do it for me. I use iPhoto version 6.0.3. I checked it using Pixie to sample the color before and after.

It was a bug in version 6.0 I think. If you update via software update to the latest version, 6.0.3, it will stop.
