Hello. Im getting an external storage device and will be putting all my pics, dropbox etc on to this.

Question is, obviously when I take a photo on my iPhone it automatically appears on iPhoto on my rMBP. Can I move iPhoto from the Pictures folder to the external device and will it still automatically update providing the external device is connected?

Yes, that is the way I have it setup on one of our MacMini's. No issues. Just make sure, like you mentioned, the external drive is connected and powered up (if not powered over USB).

You will most likely have to reconnect.

Here is a site that shows you step by step.

Perfect. Just went to do it and realised its not iPhoto but Photo's in the latest OS so I found that step by step guide and copied it as I just wanted to make sure that folder still gets updated. Thanks
