Hi

I'm a recent switcher, I'm sure once I get the hang of the Mac way it will be a better way, right now I am SO confused about importing to iPhoto library!

I have a photo folder on my HD that I migrated from the external hard drive during the switch. I then imported all of it into iPhoto library. Since then I made some changes to the photos folder ,mainly adding a few more to some of its subfolders. I thought I'd import them all again thinking iPhoto will not import the same photos twice. Well I was right to a certain degree!!

A pop-up window came up asking whether I wanted to import the duplicate? I gleefully chose 'don't import' and checked "apply this to all duplicates" thinking it will be all fine. BUT I had discovered there are duplicate events created and they are not even placed next to each other in iPhoto.

I then tested one particular folder by importing them into the library, clicked the 'don't import duplicate' thing on the popup window, somehow it only recognized 5 out of 34 photos are duplicates and copied the rest as a new event with the exact same name.

I self-taught myself to look up the folders under iPhoto library and found up to 7 folders of this particular event. I think if I delete them in iPhoto the number does drop tho....

All of these are done with "Copy photo to iPhoto library" checked. I understand from reading other tips and guides that it is a good idea to have it checked and it is by default, so it copies the photos rather then pointing them to the original source. Does this option play any part in this scenario?

I had a similar situation happened in iTunes, where duplicates were created. The AppleCare guy asked me to uncheck an option that says something along the lines of "Copy to itunes folder" or something and it seemed to have solve the problem. Are they similar problems?

Sorry I probably asked something in a long winding round-about way, but would really appreciate some clarity on this.
