Iphoto problem

My dear friends,
If there is anything i hate it is "DUPLICATE". For an unknown reason whenever i open the iphoto application it's empty! and when i update the library i end up with duplicates of my pictures.
1. How do i easily delete the duplicate
2. And also remove the "duplicate" photo from the original folder from which i updated to the iphoto application
