iphoto problem

I have always downloaded my pics from a disc as I don't use a digital camera.
This time I downloaded my pics and when i open them the pic comes up with the notice that the volume for the photo cannot be found, and an exclamation mark. When I put the disc back in then i have no problem. If I download from my phone it's no problem, if I open old photos no problem. I have a Mac book pro 10.7.3 and have recently downloaded Lion.
Would be grateful for help on this.
