Using version 4.0.3 I've been trying to work with a bunch of photos that I recently scanned.

They all imported into iPhoto quite nicely, but when I double click on them to edit any one of them (just these recent imports), iPhoto will crash before it even de-pixelizes them in the new window.

I came to the conclusion that it's because the photos are all of a very high resolution. All of them over 1600 x 1200, some as high as 3500 x 2500.

Any suggestions? I've repaired permissions already and that didn't solve the problem.

They are all standard JPEG files ranging from 1 MB to 5 MBs in size. I scanned them in with the latest ScanWizard software from Microtek.

EDIT: I've since determined that it's not iPhoto that's the culprit. As a matter of coincidence I opened all of the original scans in Preview to do some basic cropping, etc, and then SAVED them in Preview. I cropped MOST but not all of the pictures. I then deleted all of the previously-imported photos and re-imported the newer cropped ones. After re-importing the lot of pics, iPhoto can now display them just fine. And, most importantly, iPhoto still crashes when I try to open those files that I did NOT crop and save in iPhoto.

Conclusion: Somehow ScanWizard was producing JPEGs that were troublesome to iPhoto. Preview read the pics just fine, but not iPhoto.
