iPhoto shows duplicate images for iPad 2

currently using an 64GB iPad 2 running iOS 8.1 using iPhoto 9.6 in Yosemite on a MacBook Pro Core2Duo. haven't tested my iPhone yet, but wondering if anyone has a fix for the duplicate images that show up in my iPad library in iPhoto. when looking at the image library on my iPad, there are no duplicates, only when attached to iPhoto do the dupes show up. when importing, I can get both dupes to transfer, but then have to go back and delete. wtf?
