iPhoto Slideshow Export Timing Problem

I've been visiting my family this last week and they have been putting together a slideshow of a trip they took in iPhoto. Within iPhoto the slideshow looks fine, they've changed the timing and transitions on individual photos to sync with the music and whatnot. But when they send it to iDVD it defaults all of the timing and transitions and completely gums up the whole thing. Same when they try to export it as a movie file. I haven't used iPhoto in ages and I can't figure out why it is going back to a default timing when within iPhoto there is timing for each individual side. Anyone familiar with this issue?
