iPhoto transfer keep organization

I want to transfer about 3,000 pics from my mbp to my iMac. I tried using my time machine back up.

I ended up with about 9,000 pics. There were so many duplicates I couldn't begin to fix the problem.

Is there a better method to transfer my pics from MBP to iMac while keeping the events, places, faces organized?

Copy the entire iPhoto library from one to the other, don't just try to copy the photos. You need all the files in the library. Just network the two and drag the library over.
