iPhoto versions

I am running iPhohoto 6.0.6 in OS 10.5. I have 6 different libraries established using iphoto Library Manager. Suddenly I cant open 2 established libraries as they have been converted to iPhoto 7.1.4. I did not do anything to download the new version. Why did this happen and will purchasing iLife8 solve the problem
