So I am currently migrating all of my files from my windows based pc to my macbook. Anyway I have all of my files in a folder on my mac desktop. One of the files is all of my photos. I currently transfered all of my photos from the folder to iPhoto. My question is...can I delete the photos folder on my desktop now that all my photos are in iPhoto?

If the "Copy files to iPhoto library when adding to library" in iPhoto preferences -> Advanced is checked (and you've noticed a strong growth in the iPhoto Library folder ;)), then yes.

I would however burn them onto a DVD or make some other form of backup first. You can never have too many different backups of your images...
