I have a fairly moderate sized jpeg file (448 kb) that is a scan of a 4x6 photo. Copied the file to my mac (from SD card to desktop). Previews just fine. However, when I try to import it into iphoto, iphoto starts the import, stays a long time on Finishing the import, and then informs me that it is unable to read the file. If I can preview it, I assume the file is not corrupt, right? What could be the hangup? (The file was created on a new scanner I just bought - a new dedicated 4x6 photoscanner from Pandigital - it scans directly to an SD card, no connection to the computer. As there is no scanner to computer connection to worry about, I assumed it would work just fine for mac. The format of the file from the scanner is a "JPEG with compression (4:2:2)" per the scanner instructions.) Finder reports that the file is a JPEG image, 448 KB, dimensions 1785 x 1184, color space RGB, alpha channel 0. Read and write permissions. File name is PD_0003.jpg. Every JPEG created by the scanner does the same thing - previews fine, but will not import.

Just tried to insert the photo into a word file - works fine. Drag and drop to a Pages files - works fine. It just seems to be iphoto that is having a problem with these files. Iphoto imports other scanned jpeg files (from a different scanner) just fine.

On a hunch, I just downloaded Picasa 3 for Mac - the file imports fine to Picasa- so why the problem with iphoto?
