iPhoto will not load photos to email

New problem -- I select the photos I want to email, select the size, click "compose" and th blue bar in the new window runs half way the dissappears -- and no email is created. Does not matter how many, or what size photos ae selected. Started two days ago after many months of proper functioning. Any ideas?
