You can install iPhoto from the Applications Install DVD, one of the two gray DVDs, that came with your Mac.

Has it vanished from your Applications folder?
Have you tried Spotlight to look for it?

ive got the 2 install discs, can i choose to just install the iphoto or ilife or do have to reinstall the entire operating system?

By putting the second DVD (Applications - the first one contains the Mac OS) into the DVD drive, you get the option of additional installs. There you can choose to install iPhoto only.
