Hi guys, i'm new to mac. Got a Macbook as a gift.. :)
Anyway, I have tonnes of photos that I want to load into iPhoto, but I do not want to use my local disks (HDD in MB) for storage. Instead, I have a portable ext. HDD where i keep all my photos! Is it possible to get iPhoto to create its library on the ext. disk instead? (my poor MB has only 160GB of HDD)

Please help! Thank you!

You shouldn't do what was suggested before because you do want iPhoto to manage you photos. You just want to keep them in a different default location...so here's what you should do.

When starting iPhoto you can hold the option key which will give you the option to create a new iPhoto library, or choose an existing library. You should create a new one on your external (which should be plugged in while launching)

FYI, you can do the same thing w/ iTunes or simply change your iTunes library folder.

Good luck.

Thanks all! I'll try that tonight! :)
