Hello,

So I'm looking in my finder and see that both iPhoto and photos are 85+ Gb. Now I'm not sure if these are fetching data from the same place or if they actually have two libraries i.e doublets of al my picture??

Obviously I don't want this but it seemed stupid. However when I excluded iPhotos and Photos from my Time Machine backup the backup reduced in 160+ Gb indicating that they are intact separate!

What's going on? Are they overlapping, in which case I should delete one right? or is Time Machine doing a bad job?

Thanks

The original images are hard linked and therefore only take up space on the drive once, regardless of what the Finder tells you.

I am not sure whether time machine is smart enough to only backup them once though.
