My camera is a Nikon D80.

Editing RAW images in iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2) for the first time with my brand new iMac i5, working perfectly with the latest software and programs, I notice they become TIFF's although the 'Preferences - Advanced' box with regard to keeping edited photo's as 16-bits-TIFF-files is unchecked.
Yet iPhoto's own help manual reports that such RAW files really should have been converted to JPEG's.

This is most annoying because my extern software for producing photo-books does not accept RAW/TIFF/NEF, and I have to work on 100+ images.
On the other hand, editing the same image in the raw-editor 'DxO' does a jpg-output indeed.
Does anyone has a clue as why iPhoto's editing is not responding as should?

In annex (if that link works) two desktop-pictures of these files (photo DSC_8516), respectively as a NEF and as a DxO.jpg that was perfectly imported into iPhoto's Library:

I'll be most grateful for any solution or advise.
