iplayer streaming problems

Has anyone come up with a solution for streaming issues with BBC iplayer? I did an MRoogle search and saw lots of threads, but no real definite solutions to my problem, which is: if I stream from bbc iplayer, i get about 30 secs or sometimes up to a minute, before it sticks and then i lose the connection.

A few trouble shooting comments:
  • Internet connection is fine (= fibre optic), no problems with other streaming sites (eg. YouTube)
  • Iplayer works fine on my wife's macbook (=white 2006). Problem is with my early 2009 unibody macbook. Both running SNL.
  • Internet settings on both computers are the same, as far as i can tell.
  • Problem is the same for wireless or ethernet connection.
  • Flash drivers updated.

Any ideas?
