I have a 1st gen iPod touch that I have recently encountered a problem with. When trying to access the App store I am prompted for my login and password, I fill that out but the touch screen does not seem to recognize when I press JOIN or CANCEL.

I have confirmed that the touch screen does respond to touch by opening apps that are positioned in the same area.

I have also just upgraded to 3.1.3 and still the same problem occurs.

Any suggestions as to what I might try next as I am completely confused.

Thanks for any help...

Would it still be the digitizer if this is the only time that it does not work? Would there not be a dead spot on the touch screen under all conditions, not just when I am trying to enter my App store password?

Yes, it is. They won't be a dead spot.
