I have an iPod Touch, I believe 2nd generation from 2009.

It still works, and I charge it every other day or so.

My question is, how much longer would this iPod last before dying completely? Is there any chance of the battery having issues, or what would likely happen?

Thanks.

It will last as long as it will last. Most devices won't die unless acted upon by an external force.

I've got an iPod video from 2006 that works perfectly fine. And a 2nd gen touch from 2008. It's running iOS 3.1.3 and will play Pandora for hours and hours on end. Looks just like it did the day I got it, minus the lock button not always working 100%. But that's rather minor.

I also had a third gen that died after just one year. So you never know. But if it's made it this far, there's no reason for it not to keep going...

Eventually the battery will wear down though, and replacing them isn't worth it (soldering if you're up to it). But till then, enjoy the device!

My 2nd gen was still working until the digitizer quit after I got it wet. I ordered a new digitizer on eBay and will replace it this weekend.

Mine still works. It crawls and lags a bunch even on simple stuff, but still functions.

Like Brett said, at this point, it quits when it quits. It's certainly served you well so far.

Mine still works. Battery only lasts about 3 days in standby. I mostly keep it as a backup for Remote app and I let my 1 year old play with it from time to time.

The bigger problem is that I restored it some time ago, and now I can't get anything on it because almost all apps won't work on iOS 4.

My 3rd gen from Jan2010 works flawlessly.
I charge battery only when completely off. I do this with all of my "gear"
Everytime I sync I check and it still plays 15 hrs (240/260 songs) in a row

Still rocking a 1st gen 16gb touch at home (hooked up to stereo in the bedroom) on 3.1.3

It`s always plugged in so no idea what the battery is like and apps are pretty much a no-go now but it works fine as a docked music player.
