iPod 3G Dock Problems

I bought a Third Generation iPod last May when they came out. I have the 10GB without a dock. I finally bought a dock yesterday and I can't keep the iPod connected to the iMac, the iPod just won't fit into the dock tightly, do I need another dock? I went to the apple store and they said that it should work, it's just aggravating me. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be great.

There is another dock for the 3G iPods..
