Apple made changes in the way firmware upgrades are installed so it's very difficult to downgrade the 3g Touch. And even if you could downgrade it, you'd still be stuck with a tethered jailbreak, because the "block" Apple put in to prevent untethered jailbreak is on a hardware chip, which isn't affected by firmware. Long story short, there is no way to do an untethered jailbreak on the 3g, if there was everyone would be doing it by now.

will there ever be an untethered jailbreak for the ipod 3g? and if yes when will it be approximately released?
