iPod touch iPod 4G - can't connect to Gmail - need to restart

I have this minor problem with my iPod Touch 4G.

email works usually perfectly. But sometimes, I can't connect to Gmail at all. I get a wrong password message (if I remember correctly).

Same when I double home and close all apps. But when I restart the iPod everything works again perfectly. As if the iPod loses the stored login function.

Any thoughts on this issue?
