, i,m looking to buy a bluetooth portable speaker, i run my i pod 5 thru my marantz receiver via cable, my question is can i bluetooth a portable speaker at the same time to create a simulated surround sound ?

A quick guess would be no. You're given a choice of output with the 5G: iPod, Apple TV, whatever BT device you're paired with.... Forget all that. I just plugged in the ear buds I had in my pocket while connected to BT, and the BT connection was severed.
