I found this website with the iPod ads on it with pictures of the original people before they were turned into black outlines.

Pretty neat to see the actual people who make the siloette. It's funny that adds aren't exact copies of the original, they are altered a little.
 
Cool, I really wondered how they did this-wether they had color coded people dancing, or if it was total cgi. Now I guess i know. How did you come upon this?

The people danced infront of a blue screen and then were keyed out. So instead of removing everything that is blue they removed everything that isn't blue. But some things, ike the iPod headphones and jewlery/hights of clothing, were completely done in postproduction.
