Ipod and Digital Photos

I was wondering if it is possible to use the Ipod as a storage system, but without hooking it up to a computer.

For example:
You are at a beautiful location, and are about to snap a spectacular shot... but you realize that your memory card is full. But you have your trusty Ipod next to you. Can you just plug in the firewire cable from the camara to the Ipod, and send all the photos on to it? Then you can clear the memory card without worry, and snap some more shots.

If anyone can let me know, I would appreciate it.
