Ipod car connector and charging Iphone 4?

Hello,

Just got a new car that comes with the Ipod connector. I can connect the Ipod connector to my Iphone but it keeps telling me that it won't charge. It plays music very well but the battery drains fast. Is there any product that will allow me to connect the Ipod connector and also charge the Ipgone at the same time? Like a 2 in 1 Ipdone adapters? Like this one cable will be from the audio and one from the cigarette lighter to charge it.

Is it really a NEW car (2010/2011) or just new to you?

If it's a used car it might have an old firewire charging cable. There are adapters that will convert the fireware charging cables to charge USB only iPhones/iPods.

Sorry, this is a 2007 Touareg. What I need is a device that will allow me to connect the Ipod connector for music and at the same time a power source to charge the Iphone since the Ipod connector will NOT charge the Iphone.

I think the firewire to usb charger adapter is what you're going to need. 1997 is a bit before Apple started to transition away from firewire iPods/iPhones. so it's very likely it charges via firewire.
