iPod classic 3rd gen restore

Hi, I just got hold of an iPod classic 3rd gen and its displaying the folder with the exclamation Mark. I'm trying to restore it, I don't think it's supported by iTunes 10 as it doesn't come up when in disk mode and I cant install iPod updater...any suggestions.

Im using a MacBook pro
