I recently got one of these for my birthday, but just noticed on the box that it requires windows XP Home or Professional service pack 3. I have service pack 2, does this mean it will not function or connect at all?

Before anybody says, just update to service pack 3, a long story shortened, I tried to update my windows XP home PC from service pack 2 to service pack 3 & the update froze & killed the hard drive my PC, I had to get a new hard drive, & do a complete reinstall of the OS etc. So I am not going through the ordeal of trying to update to service pack 3, everything works on it so far with service pack 2.

So I need to know if this will work on my PC or do I need to give back the ipod to my gift giver apologizing & having to explain my situation with my PC, or will it work?

Try it it will probably work. Your hard drive dying physically from the update is just a fluke, though. If I were you I wouldn't hesitate updating. In fact I'd update to win7.
