Setup:
- Altec Lansing computer speakers plugged into a surge protector
- iPod plugged into the wall via the AC adapter
- iPod connected to Altec speakers through the headphone jack
Results:
Everything plays fine. Except for a faint clicking sound in the speakers. When I'm going through the menus or the backlight is on, the clicking goes away. When I stop, the clicking comes back. It's not a persistent clicking, it comes/goes at odd intervals and volumes.
Troubleshooting:
- I unplugged the firewire/AC cord, no click.
- I changed the AC adapter to a separate plug (outside the surge protector. Still clicks.
- I unplugged the "headphone" cord to the speakers, no click. Before I plugged it back in, I picked up the iPod. With the male end of the cable in one hand and the iPod in the other - Clicking.
Something tells me it's got to do with some slight difference in AC power between the speakers and the iPod. But I thought I would check here to find out and to see what I can do to remedy the problem. I really want to be able to listen at work without running the battery down all the time.
