iPod Control while screen locked

Hey Gang,

iPhone 4 is my first iPhone - so this question may be a 'duh', but here it goes all the same. Is there any way to control the iPod functionality after the screen locks? Driving around in my car, when a song comes on I want to skip its a real pain in the a$$ to swipe, punch my code, than skip/rewind/etc.

Or, is this a 'Jailbreak' feature?

quickly tap the home button twice and it should bring up the iPod controls
