is it possible to hook up my old 60g photo ipod to my new imac via firewire??? just curious. it has an wierd port on top next to the earphone port that looks suspicious

Yes, the photo was the last model to support firewire. You need to do it via the dock connector though: the weird port is for the optional remote...
I think the too slow reference was to me replying a few seconds faster, not the connection
Firewire is faster than USB at continious flows of data transfer. Apple cut it from the 5G iPods to reduce costs and because more people used USB 2 to transfer music to their iPods.
