I Come From A Land Down Under
Hello,

Today when connecting my iPod to my computer, it started to make a loud almost grinding noise, and the disc scan symbol came up on the screen. What would be the cause of the noise, and what would you recommend I do. The iPod in question is a 3rd generation 20 gig model. It is still under warranty, and the iPod still works normally, but the noise is really giving me the horrors.

Thanks for your help.

Is that the first time you've seen the "scandisk" symbol?
If so, I wouldn't worry much. I've seen it almost ten times now (over the last 1.5 year) but it haven't had any problems with it.

Noise is never a good sound when it comes to harddrives.
Noisy hd = mechanical error (atleast in many cases..)

Is the sound still present? Or did it go away shortly after?
Try running DiskWarrior/Drive10/(or even disk utility) and see what it says.

I would recommend giving apple a call, aand if your warraty is almost out get iPod apple care..
