Which is the better product?
The iPod hi-fi or the Altec Lansing In Motion 7?

There is not a huge price difference between the two, but which one sounds better?

I would go with the im7, specially since they are $177 at amazon.com, which is half of the $350 charged for the Hi-Fi.

I have the iM7 and paid $250 for it. Damn, the things are cheap now. however, it has great room filling sound, is very portable and IMO keeps the ipod neatly protected to some extent.
I would save your cash and get the iM7

There is probably only a $30 difference in the price here.
Didn't realise it was quite such a drastic price difference in the US.

I have the iM7 and am really pleased with it. I wrote a review of it here, which also includes lots of pics. I bought it about 3 weeks before the iPod Hi-Fi was announced, so I then went to the Apple Store to compare the two side-by-side. I posted a few of my thoughts in the news discussion thread at the time (here). Might be worth you doing a search of that thread to read other people's comments on the iPod Hi-Fi.

In my opinion they are both very good products and both better than the Bose SoundDock. The iPod Hi-Fi is louder, more powerful but also slightly larger, much heavier and so far less portable than the iM7. If you want room-filling sound, go with the Apple one. If you want more portability, go with the Altec Lansing.

I just came back from the Apple store (I went with a friend who just got a new mini) and my impression is that the IM7 produce better sound than the Hi-Fi, specially the bass - on the IM7s it is pretty impressive, not so much on the Hi-Fi (I set the EQ to "flat" on both iPods).

BTW, nice review, dietcokevanilla.

Personally I'd go with the IM7 because the hifi is just plain ugly. Seriously the worst design I've seen from apple.
