Hey guys, I am in the market for a new pair of 2.1 speakers. I used to own a set of Klipsch 2.1 THX; they're a great value for their price (CAD $250) but I couldn't stand how "shrill" the sound was (aka grado-like).

My budget is $400 CAD taxed-in. I've been reading speaker reviews for the past week and these two systems (iPod hi-fi & FX6021) seems to fill my needs best. I really like the sound from my Sen PX100s (phenomenal value) and is looking for speakers that produce a similar sound. I listen to a wide range of music with an emphasis to R&B & Jazz. Any input regarding these two sets of speakers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :D

I own the FX-6021's and they blow pretty much everything else out of the water.

I have asked myself the excact same question for my upcoming setup.

I would make you a list of cons and pros, but if you're going to use it with your iMac, the question is really, do you have an iPod, and do you wish to carry the speakers around? If these two are "yes", then get the Hi-fi, otherwise, the FX-6021.

They are cheaper, and I believe the systems are equivalent in sound quality. They will look equally good with your iMac, one very bad thing about the ALtec Lansing though is, that the Apple Remote interferes with it's IR reciever. So pressing a button on your iMacs remote may crank the volume up/down on your FX-6021.:( ;)

I don't use the IR reciever on my FX's. But these speakers are IMO much better than iPod Hi-Fi. At a local Comp USA they were both side by side and I tested them both and the Altecs were able to do better at higher volumes. Plus the subwoofer is deadly

I haven't heard the iPod Hi-Fi, but that and the FX6021's kind of serve a different purpose, that is I don't think the Hi-Fi is really appropriate for going on the desk with your Mac.

Josias: the infrared receiver on the FX6021's seems to get mixed up with just about anything. :) When I'm using the remote for my Z-5500's on the other side of the room, I find that it likes to turn my FX6021's on and off when I'm changing the volume. Somehow I have things set at just the right angle that the signal from the Z-5500 remote bounces across the room.

these may be a bit larger than the ones you're looking at, but i highly, highly recommend speakers by audioengine. i had the bose sounddock and the sound sucked compared to these babies. deep bass sound as well as ability to hit the high hats very nicely. vocals are crystal clear too. you don't have to turn them up loudly to have it rocking either. They're within your budget. great customer service. fantastic sound.

ipod dock built in on the top of the right speaker and hey, if you ever want to get an airtunes express, it can plug right into the back without need of a receiver. they are self powered and have an outlet right in the back!!!

and no, i don't work for them either. i have a set of speakers upstairs on my shelf and i listen to them all day long with my ipod on shuffle.

one final point, this is a speaker manufacturing company. they don't make anything else and are known for their speakers manufactured for recording studios.

their turnaround time was fast too....placed an order and had the speakers at my door in just a few days.

Cheers,
Keebler

hmmm....Apple iPod Hi-Fi or Altec Lansings....

I choose the Klipsch iFi -- best sounding 2.1 sound system. Unless you like boomy bass. I suppose if you are like R&B, theres a good chance you like boomy bass, but the iFi has awesome crossover...they sound so much smoother than your old Klipsch Promedia 2.1's

my 2 cents
