If I were to buy an iPod Hi Fi would I be able to connect it to my windows laptop and use it as a set of speakers? thanks.

Yes. Although it has a mini headphone jack as input, not RCA sockets. So you'll probably need a mini-headphone to mini-headphone lead or adapter unless you're going to do things wirelessly.
