I have an iPod touch 2g that is currentand stuck in a recovery mode loop. I don't know what OS it had before the loop and I don't have any of the SHSH blobs. I have read that the fix requires me to use redsn0w but I need to know what os was originally on it. I recently acquired this ipod on craiglist so the original ipsw is not on my computer.

So how would I break the loop?

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried a restore from DFU several times with several different IPSWs. They all have ended with an error message, most recently I have been getting Error 40.

I am not at my computer at the moment but I believe tried 4.2.1, 4.2, and another older version.

I'll give 4.2.1 another shot.

I have read that I can use iRecovery to escape the cycle. Should that work in this case?

worth a shot, putting it in DFU and just hitting restore in iTunes should also restore it to 4.2.1
